CHANDIGARH: The UT education department will extend the last date of admission to private schools under the Right to Education Act for students belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS). Though, the date has not been confirmed yet, but the new last date would now be February 28. Earlier, the last date was January 31.
The date is being extended as the deputy commissioner’s office is yet to issue more than 600 income certificates to parents, who wish to apply under the RTE Act.
Income certificate is mandatory for admission under the RTE Act in private schools.
According to sources, approximately 2,500 applications have been filed for making income certificate, but only around 1,700 income certificates have been issued so far. There are around 730 seats reserved in 56 private schools in Chandigarh.
The DC office had opened the process for issuing income certificates on December 15. On the same day, the UT education department had extended the last date to apply for admission under the EWS category to January 31, while for the general category the last date was December 16.
